picoshot upgrade
Recently we started a service to create web site thumbnails, called picoshot. We officially tagged it as beta, when in reality it was really more alpha. Deliberately we made minimal noise about it, with a blog posting, couple of forum postings and submits to a couple of small directories. Well the word got out, and usage increased very rapidly. For 1 day in October we received 3 times the amount of traffic as the entire month of September. The next day that increased a further 50%, before levelling off at this level. Unfortunately the creation of new thumbnails melted under the demand, and the wider variety of sites brought out bugs which meant delays in days not seconds.
Well the good news is that picoshot has moved to a new server, and its backend infrastructure has been improved significantly. After the initial surge and service trouble, traffic has eased a little, but is being covered easily.
If you are looking for web thumbnails for your site, give picoshot a go. Easy to set up, and no cost to use.
